MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -

The Millbrook Police Department says it has arrested and charged a man with felony attempted murder following a weekend shooting on Wildwood Drive, and they say the case may have a connection to a case a week earlier in which shots were fired into the air near a girls' softball tournament.

Tanijay Woodard, a 17-year-old Millbrook resident, turned himself in to authorities Monday evening. He was interviewed by detectives and placed under arrest. He is now charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

The suspect, who is charged as an adult, was taken to the Elmore County Jail where he is being held on a $40,000 bond.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson says his officers were contacted around 7:30 p.m. on April 20 to a civil disturbance with shots fired in the Woodview subdivision. Officers went to the scene but were unable to find anyone willing to cooperate. They could not find a shooter or a victim.

Three hours later, police were contacted by two males about a disturbance in the same area and determined that a verbal altercation turned physical. The two males reported getting into their vehicles to leave, at which point someone started firing at them. Several rounds were fired into the passenger area of the vehicle.

Both victims identified Woodard as the shooter and the search for him eventually led to his surrender.

"During the course of this investigation and subsequent arrest, certain facts are pointing to the possibility that these cases may very well be related," Chief Johnson said.

Johnson says his officers have put in countless hours trying to solve the April 12 case in which shots were fired into the air in the parking lot between the Memorial Center and the girl's softball field.

"As we continue our investigation in both cases, I want to encourage anyone with any knowledge of either case to contact the Millbrook Police Department at 285-6832 or they can contact our Secret Witness Line at 285-8500," Chief Johnson said.

Details about the April 12 shooting remain limited, but the chief says there are several persons of interest.
