Blount County's District Attorney is asking Instagram to take down offensive posts which she believes could be cyberbullying.

Someone has been taking young teenage girls photos on the social media website and reposting under offensive headlines such as "WHORESOFBLOUNTCOUNTY" or "SLUTSOFSUSANMOORE."

DA Pamela Casey said six or seven parents contacted her office last week about the matter. The Blount County prosecutor said the use of those photos violates Instagram's own terms of use which bans material that defames, bullies or intimidates people. Casey said this week Instagram replied to her letter asking for more information.

"My whole point was, my push was to get it off. It's not so much prosecuting whose doing it as potecting these young ladies dignity and character removing that stuff from instagram," Casey said.

So far Alabama's legislature hasn't moved to increase penalties against cyperbullying. Casey said she would welcome tougher laws but it still may be difficult to find guilty parties on social networks.
