AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

The Auburn University Athletic department has reported that former football legend, David Langner, died on Saturday.

Langner is best known by Tiger fans as the player who scored both touchdowns in the 1972 Iron Bowl that has been nicknamed "Punt, Bama, Punt". Langner returned both blocked punts for touchdowns in Auburn's 17-16 victory over the Crimson Tide.

Many members of the Athletic Staff at Auburn University reflected on the life of the Auburn legend.

"David Langner was one of Auburn's greats who will be remembered by generations to come," said Jay Jacobs, Director of Athletics. "He was a fierce competitor who fought cancer as hard as he fought any opponent he faced. I know the entire Auburn family joins me in offering our sympathy and prayers to his family."

"I'm saddened by the passing of David Langner, who was not only an Auburn legend but a great man," Gus Malzahn said. "On behalf of the entire Auburn football program, our thoughts and prayers are with David's family and friends."
