Funeral for Petersburg homicide victims

Posted: Updated:
PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

Hundreds poured into Mount Olivet Baptist Church Saturday to pay their last respects to four people whose lives ended abruptly one week ago today.

Fighting back tears family members celebrated the lives of Pauline Wilkins, Vicki Ansar, Tanique Chavis, and two-year-old Delvari Chavis through poetry and song.

While words of comfort were offered by family and church members, it did not stop the tears and grief from the hundreds attending Saturday's funeral.

"This is about the glory of God, being revealed in this house to a hurting family that has lost four generation but god is able, god is able," said Bishop Vincent Harris.

At times the mood was sad, but the overall tone was joyous.

It was a time to reflect on four bright lives that shined and touched so many people in their community.

Family members say today is not goodbye, but simply "see you later, for now."
