ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - What began as an idea just months ago quickly become a bright, colorful reality for Elizabethtown residents Randi Walker-Jones and Ashley Baker.

"When I grew up I used to look at magazines all the time and I dreamed about it all the time," said Baker. "Now, here it is!"

"It's a dream come true for both of us," said Walker-Jones. "We have a passion for fashion."

The best friends aimed to turn their passion into profit with the launch of their first joint business: Walker Layne Boutique.

"We combined, you know, family members from both sides to create the name," said Walker-Jones, daughter of late Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker. "Walker, being my late father."

According to Walker-Jones, the Layne portion of the boutique's name derived from Baker's daughter's name.

Hailing from Elizabethtown, the business besties said they could not think of a better place to open up shop since operating downtown would not only ensure a steady stream of traffic but also fulfill the late mayor's mission to boost business in the area.

"What I'm most excited about is seeing all my customers," said Baker.

"We wanted to restore and help to build it back up down here," said Walker-Jones.

While her late father will not be among her customers opening day, Walker-Jones said he had already shown his support in a special way.

"I definitely think he's here with us," began Walker-Jones. "Pennies are signs from heaven being dropped down here. Well, we find pennies all the time; daily. as well as my siblings and Ashley on her own finds--it's just something that never happened to us before until we started doing this project."

After adding that faith-based support to their shop's unique offerings, the new business owners deemed Walker Layne Boutique to be dressed for success.

"There's nothing like this down here," said Walker-Jones.

"The one thing that we will do here is be your personal shopper," said Baker.

Walker Layne Boutique opens to the public Saturday, May 10 at 10am just north of the Elizabethtown town square at 114 West Dixie Avenue. To learn more about Walker Layne Boutique, click here.
