5-year-old boy wounded in Richmond shooting

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A five-year-old Richmond boy is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries following a shooting Sunday evening.

Richmond police responded to the 2300 block of Ambrose Street in Whitcomb Court after reports of random gunfire around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Police do not have a suspect at this time, but are working leads. Anyone with information about the shooting can call Crimestoppers at 804-780-1000.

"This is a deplorable situation," Richmond Police Chief Ray J. Tarasovic said at the scene. "I call on all those in the community with any knowledge of the identity of these reprehensible suspects to come forward immediately with information. It is a disgraceful situation when a small boy suffers a grievous injury because detestable individuals use guns within our communities."

Tarasovic spoke to NBC12 earlier tonight, and we will have more from him on NBC12 News at 11.
