Phones, handgun stolen from unlocked cars

An iPad, cell phones and a handgun have been stolen from vehicles left unlocked in recent days, police said Tuesday.

The suspects hit vehicles in Hickory Hills, Providence, Willoughby Station, Saddle Wood and Park Glen neighborhoods.

Mt. Juliet officer said the burglars went after cars that were left unlocked, and took anything of value found inside.

Five such break-ins have been reported since May 4. Most of the crimes have been after 11 p.m. or in the very early morning, Lt. Tyler Chandler said.

Computers, wallets and purses were also among the items taken.

Officers are asking people to keep their cars locked and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhood at night.

Police are offering a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the car burglary cases.
