Recent flooding brings problems to surface in Marble Hill

Posted: Updated:
MARBLE HILL, MO (KFVS) -
Homes and businesses in Marble Hill sustained several thousand dollars in damage just a few weeks ago after nearly one foot of rain fell across the area.

One of the problems stemmed from a clogged sewer pipe owned by the city of Marble Hill according to resident Corey Lambert.

He suffered extensive damage in his basement and is asking for compensation from the city.

"It's almost laughable that the city thinks that this is not their line or just claiming it's not their line because they don't want to be responsible for anything. Even though public works comes out in the middle of the night while it's pouring down rain, trying to auger stuff out. They're getting paid by the city to do that and we don't receive a bill?"

Only weeks ago, Corey Lambert rushed down the stairs to rescue his kids stranded in sewage water.

"The main thing is we don't want it happening again," said Lambert. "I've lost too much stuff and we just want it done right. It's hard to fathom that I'm responsible for something that's not on my property."

The city has held several meetings to determine who will tear up the ground and replace the drainage pipe, but nothing has been resolved yet.

Mayor Nick Hendricks said over the phone that it's important not to rush to a conclusion considering
Marble Hill picked up nearly a season's rainfall basically overnight.

The city of Marble Hill will be holding another meeting next Monday evening to further discuss who will foot the repair bill.
