Highlands 2011 valedictorian killed in crash

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) -

The 2011 valedictorian of Highlands High School died after being involved in automobile accident Wednesday afternoon on Memorial Parkway at West Southgate Avenue. 

Fort Thomas Police said Randy Runyan, 21, of Fort Thomas, turned from West Southgate Avenue onto southbound Memorial Parkway when he was struck by a Chevrolet truck that was driven by Mitch Miller, 19, of Cold Springs.

Runyan, the 2011 Highlands valedictorian, was pronounced dead at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Robert Cowie, Runyan's 79-year-old grandfather, was Runyan's passenger. Cowie is in critical condition at UC.

Miller was taken to St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas with minor injuries and was released. Jarrod White, Miller's passenger, was not injured.

The accident is under investigation.

Police responded just before 3 p.m. Wednesday.
