CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston native and renown "Street Artist" Shepard Fairey is back in town adding some flair to the local art scene.

Fairey, known for creating the famous Hope poster used in President Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, is in the process of painting several murals around the area.

Earlier this week, Fairey and several volunteers, including Wando High School students, finished up a piece called Power and Glory on Upper King Street.

Fairey says, "I had to leave Charleston to find success in my art."

Fairey hopes by creating outdoor murals, instead of art hung inside a studio he will "democratize" the art he creates.

Fairey has two more projects, a mural on top of the Francis Marion hotel downtown and at the Graucho's on King Street.
