Paducah City Hall to be limited to 5th St. entrance

Posted: Updated:
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

Starting Tuesday, May 27, access to Paducah City Hall located at 300 South 5th Street will be limited to the 5th Street entrance.

Employees and the Paducah City Employees Credit Union customers can use the basement breezeway.

The 4th Street entrance will be closed, and access under the concrete roof canopy surrounding the building will be restricted.

The entrance limitations are due to the deterioration of the concrete roof canopy which is showing signs of aging including the spalling of the concrete.

"City Hall has served the public for 50 years without significant capital improvements," City Manager Jeff Pederson said. "At this time, the City of Paducah needs to determine whether to reinvest in the building in the hope of receiving another three to five decades of service or determine if a new City Hall should be constructed.”

At the May 20 City Commission meeting engineers presented the findings of a study conducted by Marcum Engineering; Bacon, Farmer, Workman Engineering; and Peck, Flannery, Gream, Warren Architects on City Hall.

A summary of the presentation including the meeting video can be found on the City’s website, www.paducahky.gov.

The building opened in 1964.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
