HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

The Fire Marshal's office has determined that a Friday night apartment fire in Henrico was accidental.

Crews responded around 8:23 p.m. Friday to the 4400 block of Bramblewood Lane. A visitor to another building across the street noticed smoke coming from the building. He ran into the building and alerted the occupants of the building. Fire units reported flames and heavy smoke coming from the balcony and roof from the third story of an apartment building. At the time of the fire, no one was home in the apartment where the fire started.

The fire was knocked down in less than thirty minutes and contained to the building where it started. Investigators say the fire was caused by an energized electrical fixture in a storage room off of the patio of a second floor apartment.

The apartment building has a total of 11 apartment units. All occupants in the other apartments were able to make it out of the apartment building without being injured. A total of ten families with 22 adults and 4 children occupied the building. We do know the Red Cross assisted some of the families.
