COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A man wanted in connection with a deadly weekend shooting has turned himself in to sheriff's deputies.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says 26-year-old Channen Ricks was charged with murder after surrendering to deputies at the department's headquarters on Two Notch Road Monday. Ricks was taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Deputies say they were called to a report of shots fired at an apartment in the 1200 block of Universal Drive just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday. They found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim died at the scene.

Investigators say Ricks got into a fight with the man and his friend inside the apartment. During the fight, deputies say Ricks got a pistol away from the victim. Both the victim and his friend jumped from a bedroom window and tried to run away. Deputies say as the men were running away, Ricks chased after them and fired several shots at the victim, hitting him several times.

The victim's name has not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
