FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (CNN) - A U.S. Marine remains in a Mexican prison two months after crossing the border.

Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi had three guns in his possession when he said he accidentally crossed. It is illegal to bring guns into Mexico.

He has spoken about the treatment he has endured in prison, including being tied to a bed.

His mother said she is outraged.

"You would expect the guards to protect their inmates, but instead he had nearly been executed by the gang members that were in the cell," Jill Tahmooressi said. "And then he was subjected to a severe beating by the guards. I'm appalled, this is Mexico, our friendly neighbors to the south."

Andrew Tahmooressi has been able to call a friend who served with him in Afghanistan. His friend reported the Marine suffers from PTSD and has undergone more trauma in the jail.

His next court hearing has been set for June 4.
