Maryland stifles late Gamecocks rally in South Carolina Regional

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Despite a late game rally, the Gamecocks were unable to come up with enough energy to beat Maryland on Saturday night at Carolina Stadium.

The Terrapins went into their bullpen twice to sew up and put a button on the 4-3 win after South Carolina made it interesting in the sixth inning with two unanswered runs.

However, South Carolina is still alive in the NCAA men's baseball tournament and will meet Campbell once again in an elimination game Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Gamecocks handled Campbell on Friday night by a score of 5-2. However, the Camels remain in the hunt after defeating and dispatching Old Dominion from the regional.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
