Clowney out of mini-camp due to sports hernia surgery

Posted: Updated:

Jadeveon Clowney will miss next week's mini-camp with the Houston Texans after having surgery.

According to the Texans, Clowney missed organized team activities on Thursday and Friday. Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said that the former South Carolina Gamecocks star experienced an issue with his groin, but he went into greater detail on Clowney's absence.

"We sent him to Philadelphia to have it checked out by specialists there," O'Brien said. "We decided the best thing for J.D. and the best thing for our team, and the best thing for our organization was to have sports hernia surgery. So he had that yesterday, he'll be back this afternoon."

O'Brien does expect Clowney to return and be ready to go in time for training camp.

Dylan Thompson threw for three touchdowns and No. 24 South Carolina's maligned defense stood strong on a fourth-quarter goal line stand to topple No. 6 Georgia 38-35 on Saturday night.
No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago - and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

Georgia can establish itself as a top-tier beast if it gets by South Carolina this weekend - and USC would drop to 0-2 in the league with a loss. Tennessee travels to Oklahoma, where Coach Bob Stoops doesn't believe the SEC is all-powerful.
