(CNN) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Saturday Iran would consider helping Iraq battle the Islamic militant group Isis, if asked.
The comments came at a press conference on Iran's Press TV to mark the first anniversary of his presidency.
Rouhani said Iran has not been asked to help by Iraq, and added Iran is not sending fighting forces to Iraq.
Rouhani said if Iraq asks for help Iran can give strategic guidance and is prepared to help.
Rouhani rejected any notion Iran has fighters in Iraq.
