(POOL/CNN) - Thousands of e-mails that are part of a congressional investigation into the IRS are lost because of a computer crash.
The e-mails belong to former IRS official Lois Lerner.
They were from January 2009 to April of 2011.
Lerner's e-mails were subpoenaed as part of an investigation into the agency's targeting of tea party and other interest groups.
The IRS says it will produce the e-mails from this time period using the files of other people.
Republicans expressed concern that this will delay the investigation.
