KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

There's a new hot dog in town, or at least, there soon will be. It's called the Monarch Dog, and it's going to make its debut at the second annual Heart of America Hot Dog Festival at the historic 18th and Vine entertainment district.

The dog, which is created by Farmland Foods and was debuted by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, plays homage to Kansas City's famous Negro Leagues' baseball team.

‘This is the king of hot dogs," said Negro Leagues' President Bob Kendrick. Kendrick said the Monarchs were the greatest franchise in the history of the Negro Leagues, and promised the Monarch hot dog will be equally legendary.

The Monarch is comprised of a Farmland Jumbo Frank topped with pulled pork, shredded cheese, bacon, red onions, jalapenos, and some Gates barbecue sauce. The dog was crafted in partnership with Hy-Vee.

You can try the dog for yourself on Aug. 2, when the 2014 Heart of America Hot Dog Festival will be held.

Tickets are $10 in advance. Click here to purchase. They are $15 at the door.

With this announcement, I guess you can say the dog days of summer are officially upon us.
