KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

A pregnant woman is hospitalized and a man is dead after their car went airborne, landing in a creek. It happened around midnight Sunday on Highway 259 in Kilgore just north of the Executive Inn at the rabbit creek bridge.

Rescue crews responded quickly after drivers reported a car had crashed, rushing to get to the victims trapped in the partially submerged overturned car.

"Officers arrived on scene followed by fire and rescue. I don't know who exactly they extracted, but they began to pull people out of the vehicle," says Kilgore assistant police chief Roman Roberson.

According to witnesses, the driver, 19-year-old Luis Fernando Ocura-Torres, was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle appeared to become airborne and fell between two bridges. Witnesses told investigators that Torres neither braked nor slowed down before the accident. There were no indications of skid marks on the road.

Police say that Torres died from his injuries.

"It looks like he left the roadway, went in between the two highways and into the creek," Roberson says.

A passenger, 17-year-old Carol Villanueva, was 33 weeks pregnant and had to have an emergency C-section at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.

Villanueva and the 5-pound baby are both in currently in intensive care.

Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash.

"We can't confirm until we get blood results back. So we did take blood from the driver to send off to DPS labs for analysis," says Roberson.

The conditions of the mother and baby have not been released. Investigators are trying to find out why Torres ran off the roadway.
