(RNN) - After reaching an initial goal of $1 million on their first day raising money on Kickstarter, LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow reached a second goal of $5 million Tuesday.
In May, Burton launched the campaign to bring Reading Rainbow to the digital age, providing free content online and in classrooms.
Hitting the $5 million dollar marks means children will be able to learn through the use of mobile phones, game consoles like PlayStation and OTT boxes. Children will also have free subscriptions for Reading Rainbow in 7,500 classrooms.
This fundraiser also prompted Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and Ted, to announce on June 26 he would match every dollar pledged to Reading Rainbow over $4 million up to $5 million.
The fundraising project closes Wednesday.
Reading Rainbow aired on PBS from 1983 to 2006.
