A Herrin Man is facing 19 charges after leading police on a chase through two towns in southern Illinois

It was supposed to be a traffic stop but it resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage to two squad cars.

Police say 28 year-old Victor Shea of Herrin blew a stop sign Wednesday night.

When police tried to pull him over, Shea took off.

Dash cam video shows Shea driving at speeds close to 60 MPH almost double the legal speed limit on that stretch of road.

The chase ended at Bandyville Road where he then rammed two Energy squad cars.

"The damage to our squad car is unfortunate," says Energy Police Chief Shawn Ladd.

Energy Police Chief Shawn Ladd says the damage to the department's squad cars are minor and that the officers made good judgement to pursuit Shea.

"Not only was wanted on outstanding warrants but was I procession of controlled substances and didn't have drivers license to begin with and someone who is a danger to the public," says Ladd.

A second person in the car is also being credited by Chief Ladd in helping bring the ten minute pursuit to a halt.

"The passenger in the car was trying to get the driver to stop," says Ladd.

Evidence Chief Ladd says you can see in his mug shot.

Court documents show Shea has over 30 other traffic violations.

He remains in the Williamson County Courthouse until his next court date.

The passenger was released and won't face any charges.
