TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - While spectators watch A-Mountain for one of Tucson's biggest fireworks displays, the fire department will be monitoring the surrounding area to prevent fires.

The Tucson Fire Department will use two city water tankers to wet down the fall-out area before the fireworks are launched from Sentinel Peak at 9:15 p.m.

Another concern is whether a monsoon storm will disrupt the show's schedule. Strong winds could delay the fireworks, according to Tucson Fire Public Information Officer Barrett Baker.

"When you get those high wind conditions, then basically you're getting the fireworks moving out of the area," Baker said.

Rain is also a factor for delay, depending on its timing.

"If mother nature helps us out and we get that storm sometime before 9 o'clock, then that would be the best-case scenario just because it has been so dry this year," Baker said.

Baker said two engine companies, two brush trucks and an additional water tender will be on standby at the mountain.

Fireworks Productions of Arizona was contracted to setup the show. A series of three, four, six and eight-inch fireworks shells expect to produce a spectacular display on Friday night.

"They have an opening set, they have the finale and in-between they have a couple of barrages, which is several shots at once. So yeah it ought to be a great show," said TFD on-site inspector Glenn D'Auria.

The public will not be allowed up the mountain and police will have Sentinel Peak Road blocked on July 4, until July 5 at noon.

Spectators can watch the display from sites downtown and at a lot on 22nd Street near Frontage Road.
