NEW YORK CITY (NEWS 12 THE BRONX/CNN) – For the first time ever, the 2015 FDNY Calendar of Heroes features a more feminine side.
Danae Mines is the first female firefighter to debut in the calendar and she’s born and raised in Brooklyn.
"I think it's great. You know, I would love to inspire other women to come on the job," Mines said.
The 11-year veteran says most of all, she’s proud to represent the FDNY and her borough.
"I'm from the neighborhood, that's you know, of foreign descent, and I would like for people to see that you can come from a place like The Bronx and do something positive for your life," Mines said.
This year also marks the 15th anniversary of the department and the first time a woman has appeared in the popular calendar, which goes for $15.
All of the money raised goes toward fire safety and prevention and the FDNY Foundation.
"It's a great foundation for children, seniors, anyone that needs to know anything about fire safety. It also raises money for us and for our training, which is great too," Mines said.
Meanwhile, the Brooklynite says she’s proud to represent the month of March, which is Women’s History Month.
