Man caught snapping pictures at pool using concealed camera

OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -

With summer comes extremely hot days and many families head to the pool to cool off.

Some people are left steaming after what they say they saw Monday at an Olathe, KS, pool. They say a man wearing a camera hidden in his sunglasses was allegedly snapping pictures.

What the man was taking pictures of is unknown and his actions could have been completely harmless, but rules clearly stated on a sign at the entrance of Black Bob Bay water park don't allow it.

"Just thinking about it makes my stomach turn," said Jennifer Daubert after she heard about the man spotted by a mother wearing video sunglasses and taking pictures of who knows what. "The only reason the mom was able to identify those glasses is because she works for a security company and knows about those glasses. Otherwise it would have gone undetected."

It's examples like this why Erin Vader with the city of Olathe says no recording of any kind is allowed at their pools without permission, even though the picture taking in this case may have been completely innocent.

"The concern would always be for the safety and the protection of anyone that's using our pools. We want to make sure that when people come, they're having a good time, but glasses like that can be used anywhere," she said.

Many parents said they would have had no idea what the sunglasses could be used for if they saw them.

"I never would have suspected that at all, but technology has advanced so far and people are so sneaky, you just never know," said Andi Byron.

Daubert said that's exactly the problem.

"To think that this happens in the real work and that it can happen so close to home, it's very disturbing," she said.

The same no recording policy is in place at Overland Park, KS, pools.
