REDINGS MILL, MO (KOAM/CBS) - A tiny mining village that claims a lot of history will add another attractive feature once an old railroad car is renovated into an ice cream shop.

The new home for Anderson's Ice Cream made its way from Pittsburg, MO, before making its final stop along the tracks that sit just off Highway 86 in Redings Mill.

The Kansas City Southern mail car No. 34 weighs 134,000 pounds, and it's 80 feet long. It arrived behind tow trucks that helped lead the car through narrow street corners in Joplin, MO.

"We were looking for cabooses to begin with and didn't have a lot of luck with good-conditioned cabooses" said Billy Garrigan with All Aboard Ice Cream Company. "My first thought was, 'That's huge." But I thought, you know what, we can really bring back the history of the postal railway and be able to have more room to house our customers."

Garrigan said he plans to keep the railcar as authentic as possible. Workers will add a fresh coat of paint and do some renovation on the inside before a preview day scheduled for the Christmas holiday.

It will be full steam ahead for the grand opening in spring 2015.
