RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A close adviser to Bob McDonnell says the former governor was in dangerous territory helping Jonnie Williams.

Jasen Eige testified Tuesday McDonnell's involvement with the former Star Scientific CEO came "too close for comfort."

McDonnell defense attorneys also made a new push to demonize Williams, saying former first lady Maureen McDonnell was completely blindsided by Williams' charm.

Defense attorneys also tried to show few people took Williams seriously, saying the former governor set up special meetings for Williams with high ranking officials as a way to thank him for his support, but they knew absolutely nothing would happen.

Another revelation Tuesday included an email about Maureen saying her husband screamed at her over money problems.
