Roads back open after gas leak in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Roads are back open and police say the area is okay after a construction crew hit a gas line and created a leak on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Ameren is still working to fix the line.

Several businesses were evacuated.

Lt. Paul Edwards with the Carbondale Police Department some businesses were evacuated after the construction crew hit a gas line around 3:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Main Street.

The leak is near the intersection of Frontage Road south and North Giant City Road (the road in front of Buffalo Wild Wings).

Edwards says the scene is contained and there is no danger to the public.

Firefighters and police responded to the scene.
