Some union members fear rail company wants only 1 person crew on trains

CHAFFEE, MO (KFVS) -

Transportation union workers met with railroad employees on Wednesday night, August 6 in Chaffee, Missouri.

They're discussing a contract negotiation between the workers and Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Some union members fear the rail company wants to eliminate the conductor position, leaving only one person, an engineer, as the sole crew member on trains.

The United Transportation Union maintains two-person crews are needed for safety reasons.

Wednesday night's meeting was an informational session. It's not clear if or when anything will be decided.
