Police investigate knife attack in Cape Girardeau hotel parking lot

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

One man is in custody after allegedly attacking another man with a knife in the parking lot of a Cape Girardeau hotel.

A warrant was issued on Friday for Robert L. Brewer, 40, of Jonesboro, Ark., for assault first degree and armed criminal action.

Police say he is awaiting transport to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department.

According to police they were dispatched to the scene in reference to a man with several slash wounds outside the Drury Lodge around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Within a few minutes they found the suspect, Brewer, in one of the hotel rooms. He was taken into custody without incident.

The attack was not random. Police say the suspect and the victim were acquainted with one another.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital. As of early Friday morning, police say he was in stable condition after undergoing surgery for multiple slash wounds. He had lacerations to his face, throat, shoulder and arm.
