CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois' lieutenant governor candidates don't just differ on policy issues. The Democratic former school executive and Republican councilwoman are playing contrasting roles on the campaign trail too.

Gov. Pat Quinn's pick is outspoken former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas who recently has taken to Chicago events to criticize Republican Bruce Rauner's (ROW'-nurz) ideas and business record.

Meanwhile, Rauner's running mate is Evelyn Sanguinetti. The Wheaton council member tends to appears alongside the businessman, emphasizing her life story as the child of immigrants.

How they handle their roles during a highly watched governor's race might indicate how they'll conduct themselves in office. Both detailed their views to The Associated Press.
