Mailbox damage reported in Cape Girardeau County

Posted: Updated:
CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

According to Cape County Sheriff's Department, they have received nearly a dozen reports of damaged mailboxes in the county from overnight.

There may be more mailboxes that were damaged.

The sheriff's office says the damage happened on County Roads 439, 442, Route D, and the Route FF area.

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department and postal inspectors are investigating.

People who live in the area say dented mailboxes just come with the territory.

"It's definitely aggravating considering overtime ten dollar mailboxes, before you know it you'll spend $40, $50, $60 on mailboxes that just keep getting torn apart," Ben Ivie said.

Ivie, who lives on a Cape Girardeau county road, says his family is now on their third mailbox. He says as long as it still works, they will unlikely replace it.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
