Cairo school leaders think uniforms will boost pride

Students in Cairo, Illinois are getting ready for their new dress code and administrators feel it will improve pride and morale.

Three years ago, parents brought an idea to the Cairo School Advisory Committee to require all students to wear uniforms. Parents felt this would improve achievement and morale with the students and enhance their education.

Students are gearing up for the school year by sorting out each of the pants and shirts with the uniform. Each student will receive two free uniforms before the start of the school year.

Cairo Principal Zena Madison said they have around 185 students at the middle and high school level.

She feels that the students will be more equal and that the uniforms will help build pride throughout the school and even the city.

Madison also said that during the flood of 2011, Cairo lost a couple of students in the school district, but has seen an increase since then and feels the uniforms will help increase more enrollment and pride as the years continue.
