SALINE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The sheriff's office says a 50-year-old German man was injured Friday after a fall Friday morning at the Garden of the Gods in Saline County.

Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown says central dispatch received a 911 call of a man that had fallen near the rock formation known as the Devil's Smokestack.

Saline County deputies, Saline County EMS and Equality Fire Department were were dispatched to the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Hines Basse, 50, of Laatzen, Germany fell approximately 15 feet to a ledge.

Basse received injuries to his ankle, knee and leg. HE was flown from the scene by St. Mary's Lifeflight helicopter to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Sheriff Brown says the rescue effort took nearly three hours, to get Basse to a trauma center.

No one else was injured during the incident.

"It takes several minutes for law enforcement and rescue to arrive to the park when someone falls and it takes even longer to get an injured person to a medical facility," said Brown. "So we urge caution when out on the rock formations."

Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown reminds people traveling to the park, to wear appropriate clothing and foot wear.
