TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Border Patrol agents find nine illegal immigrants locked in back of a U-Haul truck.

This potentially deadly smuggling attempt was discovered by BP agents at an Interstate 19 checkpoint near Amado, Arizona.  According to a BP release, agents became suspicious of the driver and passenger of a U-Haul during a routine inspection.  The driver agreed to a search of the cargo hold on the truck, but then stated they had no key to the padlock.

While in secondary inspection, BP agents said they used special equipment to search the cargo hold of the truck and discovered seven people locked inside. The inside of the cargo hold has no fresh air or means of escape, said the release.  BP agents said the key to the padlock was found in the cabin of the truck.

The nine were taken into custody for prosecution and removal from the U.S. by BP agents.
