Passed bond issue paying for Kelly School construction

BENTON, MO (KFVS) -

A bond issue voters passed last year is paying for new construction at Kelly schools in Scott County, Missouri.

Superintendent Fara Jones says once the project is complete there will be 10 new elementary school classrooms as well as a new kitchen facility.

The money is coming from a three million dollar no-tax increase bond issue that voters approved on the April 2013 ballot.

Jones says the new additions will benefit student learning as well as the future of the district.

"Class-size is very important as everyone knows," said Jones. "We want to be able to keep that student to teacher ratio small and you have to have the rooms to keep them in. By doing that, that affects every child. Kelly is moving forward fast. This is just another example of that."

Workers started on the project when students left for the summer back in may.

Jones says they expect it to be finished by May 2015.
