For the past year and half, Stephen Milliken's mother, Semetta Gardner, waited to get a call from Metro Police saying that her son's killers were charged.

"I just fell to the floor," Gardner said. "I just thanked God. I just thank God. I've just been waiting on this."

Friday, three men were charged with the murder of 18-year-old Milliken.

Gardner's nightmare started the day after Christmas 2012. Her son was robbed of stereo equipment, then shot. Milliken had recently found out he was a dad.

"That's the reason he went to sell his studio equipment, so he could start the job and start taking care of her," Gardner said. His child's name is Maya.

Police said Milliken and three friends went to East Nocturne Drive to sell stereo equipment. Investigators said Alexander Vance, 21, and brothers Damonta and Joshua Meneese took the equipment at gunpoint. But when Milliken got back in the car to drive away, he was shot in the head.

No one was ever charged in Milliken's death until Friday. A Davidson County grand jury indicted Vance and both the Meneese brothers. Gardner said not long after, she got a call from a Metro detective.

"He was letting me know, Ms. Milliken (Gardner) we got them," Gardner said. "The jury gave us all the warrants."

It's a moment of relief for a grieving mother. Still, Garner said she remains concerned about safety, since Damonta Meneese is not behind bars.

"Once everyone is behind bars involved in this, I'll feel a whole lot better, and I feel I can move on," Gardner said.

Vance and Joshua Meneese, 21, are currently in jail on unrelated charges. But Damonta Meneese, 22, is still on the loose.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
