TRIGG COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Power lines are to blame for a western Kentucky car crash on Saturday. Now, police say a Cadiz man faces DUI charges.

Trigg County, Kentucky 911, called to report a multiple vehicle non-injury vehicle car crash that was caused by downed power lines, according to the transportation cabinet.

A Kentucky State Police trooper then responded to the 9 mile marker, on KY 164, near Linton, Kentucky.

According to state police, the trooper found a Chevrolet Equinox off the right shoulder of the road, and down an embankment.

The vehicle had hit a utility pole and it was knocked down. There was no one in or around the vehicle.

Some time before emergency personnel arrived, a Nissan pickup driven by John Mitchell, of Cadiz, Kentucky was headed west on KY 164 and became entangled in the downed power lines.

Mitchell was distracted by the crash and became trapped in his vehicle, once he came to a stop in the road.

Mitchell's vehicle was freed by the Pennyrile Electric Company. The vehicle received minor damage.

Paul Erexson was found walking a short distance away by state police and after a short investigation, it was learned that he was the driver of the Equinox.

Police say Erexson was intoxicated and was charged with DUI 1st offense (aggravated circumstances), operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, failure to produce an insurance card, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

No one was injured as a result of either incident.

He was booked into the Christian County Jail. The investigation continues.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Trigg County Fire-Rescue Squad, Trigg County Sheriff's office.
