BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham Police are investigating a homicide at the Kangaroo Express on Robert Jemison Road.

Police say a man was shot in the chest around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

"What we've learned in the preliminary part of the investigation is that we had two individuals, two males that got into some type of physical altercation. One of the males pulled out a firearm and a shot was fired," Lt. Sean Edwards said.

Edwards says the man who was shot was transported to UAB Hospital where he later died.

"We do have the individual that we believe is responsible for the shooting," Edwards said.

Authorities say the suspected shooter later returned to the scene of the crime and was taken into custody.

Officials have not yet released the name of the suspect or the victim.

Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to call the Birmingham P.D. Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
