Man accused of stabbing person in the face

LEADINGTON, MO (KFVS) -

A St. Francois County man is back home and recovering after being stabbed several times in the face.

Jessie Werley of Leadington, Mo. faces charges of first degree assault and armed criminal action.

On Aug. 17 police responded to a 911 call of a stabbing that happened on Union Street in Leadington.

According to court documents, when they arrived, they saw a man lying on his back in a puddle of blood with several stab wounds to the left side of his face.

A witness told officers that Werley had stabbed the victim in the living room with two knives and then went to his apartment nearby.

Another witness said he was in the restroom when the incident happened. He said he heard screams, left the restroom and grabbed Werley and pushed him off of the victim.

The witness said he then grabbed some towels and covered the wounds.

He said a woman in the room then held the towels on the wounds while the man went for help.

The victim was taken to the hospital and admitted to the ICU.

According to Leadington Police Chief Dustin McKinney, the victim has been released and is at home recovering.

Werley was taken to the St. Francois County Jail and his bond was set at $200,000.
