ORAN, MO (KFVS) -

Authorities say a southeast Missouri man was taken into custody on drug charges.

Joshua Allen Freeman, 29, of Oran, Missouri was charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says on noon Thursday, Aug. 28, Deputy Danny Finley responded to home on State Highway 91 to assist Senior Deputy Matt Scroggins. Deputy Scroggins had arrived at the home beforehand to investigate a possible burglary.

Officers learned that methamphetamine was present in the residence.

The deputies were given permission by Freeman to search the home.

According to the sheriff's office, a bag containing three glass pipes with a white residue, five straws with a white residue, 14 small plastic bags, five hypodermic needles, one small spoon with white residue, and one verification weight for a digital scale were found. A field test of the residue indicated positive for methamphetamine, according to deputies.

Officers say Freeman admitted having the items. He was taken to the Scott County Jail where he submitted a urine sample. That sample tested positive for THC, methamphetamine and amphetamines, according to the sheriff's office.

The Missouri Division of Family Services was contacted and responded to the residence.

After further investigation two children were removed from the home and turned over to a relative.

Bond for Freeman was set by the court at $10,000 cash or surety.
