Carbondale PD investigating three robberies, two in custody

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Carbondale Police Department is currently investigating three robberies. Two of the robberies involved a gun.

The robberies happened between Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 2:00 a.m. and Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. in the 300 and 400 blocks of West College Street, and in the area of South Beveridge Street and West Cherry Street.

Police say one armed robbery happened on Aug. 24 at about 2 a.m., in the 300 block of West College Street.

Two victims reported being robbed by two black males, with one of the black males with a black gun.

The victims told police the suspects demanded money along with other items.

Police say no one was hurt. The victims described the suspect with the gun as, a black male around 5'8”, thin build, and wearing a sleeveless white t-shirt. The second suspect was only described as a black male who was bigger than the first suspect.

Another armed robbery happened on Aug. 26 at about 9:00 p.m., in the 400 block of West College Street.

The victim reported being approached by two black males with one of the suspects with a black gun. The suspects demanded money and other items. No one was injured in this incident.

The victim described the suspect with the gun as a black male around 5'6”, light build, dark complexion, short hair, red shirt and black pants. The second suspect was only described as a black male who was bigger and taller than the first suspect.

There was also another robbery on Aug. 24 at about 3:40 a.m., in the area of South Beveridge Street and West Cherry Street. Police say two victims reported being robbed and attacked by three black males.

The three black males attacked the two victims and took personal property. Police say it is not believed that this robbery is related to the first two, but it hasn't been ruled out.

There were also two arrests made as a result of this investigation.

Their identities are not being released right now, in order to not to compromise leads into the identity of the third suspect.

The Carbondale Police Department is asking residents to be aware of their surroundings when walking at night.

If walking at night, police say to try walking with a group of people and stay alert.

If you believe you are being followed, dial 911 and ask for assistance.

The police department says there will be more police officers in the areas, and are asking for the public's help in reporting anything suspicious.
