Troopers: Drunk driver causes early morning accident

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

An early Saturday morning accident that sent two people to the hospital in Charlotte, was sparked by a drunk driver, troopers.

It happened just after 3:00 a.m. on Interstate 77 near Clanton Road.

The Highway Patrol tells WBTV two people were taken to the hospital because of a drunk driver.

They say the driver of a BMW was weaving in and out of traffic when that person hit the back end of an SUV.

Three lanes of I-77 Southbound had to be shut down.

The passenger of the S-U-V and the driver of the BMW were rushed to the hospital.
