An early morning fire has claimed the life of a Pine Belt woman.

Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem confirmed the death of Kayla Ducksworth, 26, at 3:30 a.m.

Members of the Hattiesburg Fire Department responded to a fire at 900 Cypress Avenue shortly before 3:00 a.m.

According to Hattiesburg Fire Department officials crews arrived on scene, and firefighters from Engine 2 made entry into the structure and removed a female who was transported to Forrest General Hospital by ambulance.

Officials stated there was very little fire in the apartment, and mostly blacked itself out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and Ducksworth is also being sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
