Weather not stopping Labor Day weekend plans at Rend Lake

REND LAKE, IL (KFVS) - The Rend Lake campgrounds and beach we're packed this Labor Day weekend despite several rain showers and an outlook of more rainy weather.

Ronald Sievers rented a $25 pavilion at Rend Lake to celebrate his granddaughters sixth birthday. He says glad the bad weather strayed away.

“We saw some rain coming but it went to the north, some went to the south, "Sievers said. "If you can get out, that's what you should do.”

Steve Marquardt came from Waterloo, Illinois to Rend Lake this weekend. He said he was a iffy about going because of the rain predictions, but says he's glad he made it out.

It costs $3 per car to visit a Rend Lake beach for a day. Beaches are open from sunrise to sunset.

“Having fun with family and friends, just chilling and making the best of the weekend," Marquardt said. "Trying to stay dry."

For seasonal businesses like Carbondale's American Ice Cream, a business that sells ice cream from trucks, bad weather can stop a whole day of sales.

Brendan Tolan owns American Ice Cream, he says rain this weekend hurt business.

“We're always looking for good weather on the weekend," Tolan said. "And when we have rough weather, sometimes it makes us have to either delay are routes or pretty much just cancel them.”
