CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Looking for something to do this weekend? The 101st Annual Carterville Free Fair 2014 begins Sept. 4.

The fair runs through Sept. 6 and features a Little Mr. and Mrs. CartervilLe contest, queen talent show, 5k run/walk, live music, monster truck rides, puppet show, and pie baking contest.

A parade will be Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. It started at the new Junior High school and will go up S. Division to James Street. It ends at James St. Park.

Money raised at the fair will go back to the community.

"Once a year, for the graduating seniors, we have a $1000 scholarship," said Robert Browning with the Carterville Lions Club. "And also with the queen pageant is a scholarship. I believe it's $1000 also."

"We buy eyeglasses, leader dogs, braille machines and stuff like that," said Ed Smith with the Carterville Lions Club. "The community as a whole helps us out a lot between the administration and teachers at the school district letting us know about the kids' needs or the ministerial alliance in the community. They let us know more about the adults that are in need. We just go out and try to help everyone in the community that we can."

Visit the Carterville Lions Club website for a full schedule.
