The Back to Basics Cocoa Latte claims it can make almost any kind of hot beverage, all with the touch of a button. It also will re-heat it later.

First, I plug it in. Then I pour in some hot chocolate mix, followed by some water. Not too long into the test, and I already doubt this gadget's going to work. Come on! Is it really going to automatically stir powdery, lumpy cocoa? Well, the claim on the box says it can.

I press the "on" button, and if you get close enough to it, you can hear a paddling sound. So, I guess it's brewing. Now, a quick time check. I want to see just how long it takes to make cocoa at my desk. There' s no official claim, and I'm hoping it takes the same amount of time as it would in a microwave.

The insulated mug feels hot.  About two minutes later, we have instant cocoa, which by the way tastes pretty good. Now here's the big claim. The Cocoa Latte says:  if you leave in in the "on" position, it will automatically reheat your drink, in about 30 minutes.

So, while we wait, I ask some of my coworkers, their intial thoughts. Mike Breslin is one of the producers for the Breakfast show and Heartland News at Noon...which means most days, you can find him typing at his desk, on a tight deadline.

"Sometimes we're chained to the desk, so this would be handy.  Even taking a few minutes can sometimes make all the difference in the world in a newscast, so it'd be nice to not have to get up and go to the break room," he points out.

It'd be even handier if it lives up to its promise. Does the Cocoa Latte reheat on its own? Well, I kept it going most of the day, and I found it cycles every *45* minutes. So, it appears the Cocoa Latte lets your drink completely cool down, and then it fully re-heats. In other words, don't expect this gadget to constantly heat your drink.

So, is this $20 gadget worth it? Let's get another opinion.

Jamie Eftink works in creative services at KFVS.  It's a job where she sometimes gets called away from her desk for several hours, unexpectedly.  By the way, Jamie is a huge coffee drinker.

"I probably wouldn't need it because I have a ready supply of coffe at all times at the office, but it would be nice if you got called away for a meeting or something.  You could return to your heated drink.  I think if you have a microwave, you wouldn't need it, but if you have a job that doesn't allow many breaks, or the microwave is located far away, then this would be ideal," says Jamie.

Here's what it boils down to. The Back to Basics Cocoa Latte Express brews up a B+ on this Does it Work Wednesday test.
