Grill Daddy: Does it Work?

The Grill Daddy is supposedly a "revolutionary new grill-cleaning tool," and Kent Crider certainly spends a lot of time behind the grill. The K103 morning radio host even has his own special finishing sauce for sale...

"It's sweet and spicy with a little bite to it," says Kent.

So, let's see how much bite the Grill Daddy makes.  Kent's charcoal grill hasn't been cleaned, it has some leftover cheese on it.  Meantime, we fill the Grill Daddy with a cup of tap water.  The directions say to preheat your grill.

Once the grill is hot and ready, Kent simply turns the on valve.

"Nothing yet, no steam coming out.  However, maybe it'll get going once I put some muscle into it?  We'll see.  Let's start cleaning the grill in the direction of the grates, like the directions say," says Kent.

If you were thinking this steamer would be similar to a steam iron---it's not.  The Grill Daddy simply releases a stream of water onto your grill.  The steam comes as the water hits the hot grill.

"It's almost like dropping your fingers on it with water drops," says Kent.

Still, we can't deny the extra moisture does make the cleaning go faster, and it's working.  The leftover cheese fell into the pit.

"I'd grill on that," says Kent.

Kent also used the Grill Daddy on his very charred grate from his smoker.  He uses this when hickory-smoking meats.  This time, we didn't preheat it at all, but the Grill Daddy still steam-cleaned the grime away.

"It didn't give it a stainless steel shiny finish, but it did clean it, and I'd grill on it, so I'd give it an A minus," he says.

The minus only because Kent wonders how long the bristles on the brush will last.  So, it's a sweet and spicy finish for the Grill Daddy.  It serves up an A minus on this Does it Work test.

I bought the $15 Grill Daddy at Target in Cape Girardeau.  By the way, you can only buy Kent Crider's BBQ Finishing Sauce at JW's Drive-in at East Cape Giradeau, IL.
