Hyrdro Surge Rapid Bath: Does it Work?
By: Lauren Keith

In just three minutes or less, the HydroSurge Rapid Bath system is supposed to wash, shampoo and rinse your dog, giving the pooch a professional cleanse.  Well, Rapid Bath, perhaps you haven't met Celie.  She's an active, happy-go-lucky Newfoundland.  When Celie stretches out, she's more than five feet tall!

"Come here!" whistles Celie's owner, Charles Evans of Cape Girardeau.

You guessed it....bath time isn't necessarily Celie's favorite time, nor is that the case for  Charles.

He spends about 70 bucks alone to get her fully groomed.  That's the same cost of this bathing system.  If Rapid Bath works, Charles might just give Celie a few more baths himself.

"It is sudsy when you turn it on," notes Charles.

It wasn't hard at all to attach Rapid Bath to Charles' water hose.  Inserting the special shampoos is a breeze, too.  The instructions say you don't have to pre-wet or even brush your dog.  Supposedly the massaging action of the special attachment and the suds are enough to shampoo your pup, if she stands still long enough.

"Yup, she's shaking," says Charles as he turns Celie around.

I've got the stopwatch ready.  We'll see if Rapid Bath lives up to its name.  I watch as Charles suds up Celie in no time, using the special hose.  It looks like a hose you'd see in a sink at a hair salon.

"A minute thirty left!" I shout.

Charles flips the switch on the Rapid Bath.  It's time to see if Rapid Bath rinses away in under three minutes.

"All gone, all soap is gone!" says Charles.

Then in just 2 and a half minutes, Celie's coat is shiny.

"Are you surprised?" I ask Charles.

"Yes, I am.  It'd probably take a few minutes more if she had all her hair like in the winter, but in this case, it definitely did the trick in three minutes," says Charles.

How long will it take with little Charlie, a long-haired chihauhau?  Breakfast Show viewers will remember Charlie belongs to one of our producers, Rebecca Steutzer.  Just for fun, we want to know how long it'll take the Rapid Bath system to clean a little dog.  The attachment itself is the same size as Charlie!

"Like 45 seconds, I guess!" says Rebecca.

As soon as Rebecca starts the shampooing, Charlie wriggles around.  It's apparent he does not like being bathed.  No kidding---in 45 seconds---Charlie's shampooed and rinsed, but now we need a Rapid Bath drying system.  Once he's let loose, Charlie squirms and rubs his coat all over the grass!

"He's going to do this for the next 30 minutes!" says Rebecca.

So much for a good bath!

"It's good for a big dog, but maybe too overwhelming for a little dog," she says.

Is it worth $70?  Also, a three-pack of refill shampoos costs you about $10.  There's plenty left after washing both big and little dogs in one day.

"I'd give it an 'A' so far," says Charles, the owner of the Newfoundland.

"I'd give it an 'A' for bid dogs, but I can wash little Charlie in the sink!" says Rebecca.

The Rapid Bath comes with a shower attachment, in case you're interested.  It's sold online and at Petsmart.  There's no doubt the Hydro Surge Rapid Bath system suds up an 'A' on this Does it Work test.
